And Now Presenting Africa: Follow my Footprints in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Itinerary

And Now Presenting Africa-

Follow my Footprints in Tanzania is a multi-activity package tour covering everything I experienced and encountered across all five of my trips to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, capturing the people, places, and moments that shaped my journey.

Wth the support of knowledgeable local guides and the warmth of the people I met along the way, I have come to know Dar es Salaam quite well, and I’m excited for you to embark on this journey with me so that my experiences can become a meaningful and personal part of your own.

Words cannot fully explain how these trips have changed my life. Often I feel that my articles, photos, videos, and posts fall short of capturing what I have experienced, and that you cannot truly gain an in‑depth sense unless you are actually there to see it, hear it, and feel it firsthand.

Before I go into the itinerary, I would like for you to get to know me better by telling you about my diverse up bringing, traveling history, my relationship with people who were born and raised on the continent of Africa, and how I came up with the concept, ‘And Now Presenting Africa’.

My Diverse Upbrining and Environment

I grew up in Northern California, (Fremont) and had the pleasure of going to grade school, and high school with a lot of foreign students-from Mexico, to Saudia Arabia, Hawaii, Guam, Costa Rica, England, India, Puerto Rico, China, Germany, Vietnam, and the Philippines. My high school yearbook, is mostly filled with students from all around the world!

Traveling History

I fell in love with travelling after flying alone at the age of 9, continuing to go on solo trips, taking many family trips with my parents and younger brother, making friends and going to school with people from other countries, and from having relatives in the military who have been stationed in Germany, The Philippines, and Japan.

My relationship with people who were born and raised on the continent of Africa

Unlike many Americans and other Europeans who are relocating to, visiting, and touring the continent of Africa, I already have had — and continue to have — close African friends here in the United States for more than ten years.

In fact, while living in Houston, Texas — which has one of the largest Nigerian communities in the country — I did not have many American friends at all. Most of my friends, coworkers, business and spiritual mentors were Nigerian. I also have close friends from Cameroon and Kenya.

The first Native of Africa with whom I developed a friendship is from Kenya. Though I have relocated from Houston, Texas several times since, we always make an effort to keep in touch.

African Friends and Co-Workers

Entering the medical field in Houston, Texas I was surrounded around a lot of Africans from Nigeria. Though at first we bumped heads, I was attracted to their ambition, their work status, and discipline. But mostly, how they all helped, supported, and encouraged one another.

Soon, as I showed interest, and asked questions, they were teaching me about their culture, and supporting and encouraging me as if I was their own.

I then began my own research about the continent of Africa, and grew even closer to my new co-workers and friends from Nigeria, Kenya, and Cameroon.

So even though I know that Africans from different countries have totally different cultures, I did not experience a tremendous culture shock in Tanzania; instead I found the pace of life, everyday customs, and warm hospitality comfortably familiar and easy to adapt to.

And Now Presenting Africa

The name And now presenting Africa was actually conceptualized by me in 2004, after discovering my true African roots through my Nigerian, Cameroon, and Kenyan friends and co-workers.

If truth be told, Nigerians are the reason why I even know about my African roots; both knowingly and unknowingly they guided me, gently shaping my understanding, deepening my connection to culture, and helping me embrace the heritage that now feels like a part of who I am.

The name ‘And Now Presenting Africa’ came to me while I was researching, studying, and uncovering deeper truths about a frequently misunderstood and often misrepresented continent.

I originally envisioned ‘And Now Presenting Africa’ as a magazine-style publication, showcasing curated stories, visuals, and voices from the African Diaspora.

At the time, I was telling everyone who would listen, about my newfound love for Africa — its rich history, diverse countries, vibrant cultures, and the many people who live across the continent as well as Africans living abroad.

Fast forward to the present, I have reopened the African chapters of my life, sharing them more openly through my website, blog, and Pinterest pins.

Starting in Tanzania!

Tanzania called, and I answered

When I felt the calling to go to Africa, I was already in the midst of planning a trip to Lagos, Nigeria, but my spirit — and I believe some of my African ancestors — gently steered me toward Tanzania by introducing me to Kathryn via YouTube-better known as Traveling Sista.

Kathryn is one of the first people online to provide extensive, thoughtful detail about relocating to Tanzania. All of the information that she has shared throughout the years is like gold.

I literally had my binder and was taking notes like I was in school!

Kathryn talking about life in Tanzania immediately grabbed my attention. Something inside me resonated deeply and quietly urged, “Go.”

So I followed that pull, though not before doing my own careful research and preparation for a whole year and a half.

Tanzania was everything Kathryn had described and even more; everything I felt the first time I was introduced to Tanzania in 2020 was affirmed, and that affirmation has only deepened each time I returned.

I Fell in Love with Tanzania!

I cannot remember a single visit where I felt uncomfortable or out of place.

Every time I travel to Tanzania, most Tanzanians consistently make me feel genuinely welcome and completely at ease.

On my first visit around my birthday in October 2021, I quickly fell in love with the warm, welcoming Tanzanian people, their melodic language, vibrant cultural traditions, and the delicious, comforting local food.

I fell in love with the people, the land, the language, the lifestyle, and the love and respect that Tanzanians have for one another.

I fell in love with how a lot of Tanzanians still keep their ancestral traditions, and how family and children seem to always be at the forefront of their lives.

I fell in love with Bongo Flava music as well as traditional Tanzanian tunes. I fell in love with how they build homes, the everyday lifestyle of Tanzanians, and the hustle of vendors of all.

I fell in love with the little things like how the bus (dala dala) attendants shake change in their hand to collect bus fare, to how the Ferry vendors make loud kissing noises to get people's attention to buy whatever goods they are selling.
