Lying right on the shores of the Tanganyika River, which feeds into the largest freshwater lake in the world, Burundi is a captivating country in East Africa that is widely celebrated for its rich traditional drumming, breathtaking mountainous landscapes, and of course, its exceptional coffee.
I must admit that despite Burundi’s close proximity to Tanzania, I had never seriously considered visiting until I had the opportunity to taste their unique coffee—a true highlight and one of the many wonderful benefits of being part of the Atlas Coffee community.

Like most of the Atlas Coffee Club varieties produced in various countries, the grind date is exceptionally fresh and natural, ensuring that the beans retain their full, vibrant character.
Because of this freshness, there is often little need to add creamer or sugar if you wish to fully appreciate the nuanced tasting notes. Burundi coffee, in particular, strikes a perfect balance—not too bold, yet not too light.
I typically enjoy only one cup of coffee in the morning to start my day, but I can easily see myself sipping coffee from Burundi throughout the entire day. The rich flavors and unique notes make it a beverage I would want to savor repeatedly.
